Daal in English means lentils. Believe it or not, there are more than just the brown daal and the yellow daal. Daal is a very common dish in Pakistani households and is often eaten during lunch along with sabzi(vegetables) or a salan(curry).
My favorite daal growing up was the panchmael daal (literally means meeting of 5 lentils). It is a dish made out of 5 different types of daals. Let's explore what those daals are!
Chaana Daal = Split Gram Lentil

Moong Daal = Split Green Gram

Masoor Daal = Split & Husked Brown Lentil

Urad Daal = Split & Husked Black Gram Lentil

Side note on Urad Daal, for Panchmael you use the Black Urad Daal, also known as Black Gram Lentil.
Last but not the least, my favorite daal, Arhar Daal = Yellow Split Pigeon Peas
I didn't have Arhar Daal in my pantry, so I am attaching a picture from 24 Mantra for reference!
